About The Crypt and DJ Soulwood
Hello Ladies and Gents and Welcome to The Crypt on WKNC and Hawkstream!
WELCOME
I am really excited to be bringing you the most relavant tunes from jazz, blues, and beyond. I have always been told that I act like an 80-year-old geezer trapped in a 22-year old's body. You will hear that in my musical selections and even the way I talk on air. While I try to keep my music current and hip to the jive, I do love being able to find things that bridge the gap between the old guys who have been listening to jazz forever and the newbies who need something chill to get them hooked. My air time should be just the right mix of eclectic artists with strong historical and present day influences playing new renditions of as many standards as I can get my hands on.
SONG REQUESTS
I hope that you enjoy the show as much as I do, and if you have an artist that you feel should be played on The Crypt, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE email me, call in to the show at 9191-515-2400 or 919-515-0881, or send your requests via the NC State Student Media App. I am always looking for new music to fall in love with.
ABOUT THE WEBSITE
I want this site to serve as an interface between you, the listener, and The Crypt, but also as a tool for you to find great artists on your own.
Each week I will post the playlist of my most recent show in the "Playlists" tab.
In conjunction with the "Playlists" page, most of the artists that I air will also show up under the "Media" page. The "Media" page itself is home to The Crypt's Hot List, a Soundcloud of my favorite new tracks, jazz pictures, quotes, and more. You can explore here or click on one of the Media subpages.
On the "Artist Lists" media sub-page, you can find any artists that you enjoy hearing on The Crypt. Simply search by instrument, and I will have links to Youtube videos of them, other similar artists, and my favorite track of that specific artist available. This should help you find things that are in the same musical vein.
On the "Videos" media sub-page, I have posted my favoirte live songs that aren't on studio recordings and just other fun musical videos.
I post full length reviews of records that I feel are in need of some considerable exploration and worthy of it. For the full story on an album, check the "Blog" page. The "Blog" page can serve as another way for you to find similar artists by searching through the tags for each article.
